SYNOPSIS : The documentary "Strangers in Sendai" is a community art project by contemporary artist Atsushi Kadowaki, who lives in Sendai. It is a series in which multiple directors shoot the "strangers" who lives in Sendai. It started in 2021, and a total of 7 works were produced by 4 directors in March 2022.
In this work, "Sam and Makiko", I shot Samuel Martin, a missionary living in Sendai, and Makiko Nakagawa, who supports international exchange activities.
Sam has lived in Japan for three years. In Japan it is taboo to talk about religion to people. How does Sam, a religious person, live in Japan?
Makiko has lived abroad for five years. Having lived abroad as a "stranger," what kind of society does she see in Japan?
